Assalamu alaikum.
How are you preparing for tomorrow? Actually, today (because a new day starts after Maghrib)
Do you have your dua list ready? Your reminders on a phone throughout the day? Your Qur'an or YouTube dua playlist for the day?
If you don't, NOW is the time to get them ready. This might be the last Day of Arafah we witness.
May Allah make it easy for us to do good deeds on this day, may we be among those taken away from the Fire and may He accept all our duas. Aameen.
“And your Lord said: “Invoke Me [i.e. believe in My Oneness (Islamic Monotheism) and ask Me for anything] I will respond to your (invocation)”
[Ghaafir 40:60]
How to Craft The Perfect Dua.
This is a straightforward how-to on crafting the perfect dua.
• Have a concrete dua.
It's easy to make abstract duas like “Oh Allah, give me money" but a better dua to make could be “Oh Allah, grant me a promotion that'll increase my income by 123” or “Oh Allah, grant me the funds for a new car”
• Connect it to a name of Allah.
Go through the names of Allah and see how they fit for each of the duas you have.
“Ya Wadud, you are the source of love, please increase the love between my husband and I”
“Ya Fattah, open the door of opportunity for a new job that'll pay well for me ”
• Connect it to ibadah.
We're in this dunya for one primary purpose- to worship Allah. Everything (halal) can be worship if we purify our intentions.
“Ya Khaliq, allow me to travel the world so I can marvel at your creations.”
“Ya Wahhab, provide for me a car that I can use to facilitate good and take my family to the masjid every day”
Conditions for an Accepted Dua.
• You should call upon no one except Allaah.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If you ask, then ask of Allaah, and if you seek help, then seek the help of Allaah.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2516
• You should begin with praising and glorifying Allaah and sending blessing upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
It was narrated that Faddaalah ibn ‘Ubayd said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) heard a man making du’aa’ after his prayer, but he did not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “This man is in a hurry.” Then he called him and said to him or to someone else: “When any one of you has finished praying (and makes du’aa’), let him start by praising Allaah, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), then after that let him ask for whatever he wants.” Al-Albaani said: it is a saheeh hadeeth.
• You should seek to draw close to Allaah in one of the ways that are prescribed in sharee’ah.
• You should be patient with asking and in expecting a response.
In the hadeeth it says: “One of you may be answered so long as he is not hasty and says, ‘I said du’aa’ but I got no response.’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6340; Muslim, 2735.
• Your dua should not involve sin or severing of the ties of kinship.
In Saheeh Muslim (2736) it says: “A man’s (du’aa’s) may be answered so long as it does not involve sin or severing the ties of kinship or hastening…”
•You should be focused, aware of the greatness of the One upon Whom you are calling.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Know that Allaah does not answer a du’aa from a distracted heart.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3479
• You should be humble with asking Allah.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors” [al-A’raaf 7:55]
• You should be eating, drinking & wearing halal.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that a response was unlikely for one who eats, drinks and wears haraam things. In the hadeeth it says: [The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] mentioned the man who undertakes a lengthy journey and is disheveled and covered with dust, and he stretches his hands towards heaven saying, ‘O Lord, O Lord,’ when his food is haraam, his drink is haraam, his clothes are haraam. He is nourished with haraam, so how can he be granted a response?
Narrated by Muslim, 1015.
When to Make Dua.
• Every moment of the day (it is a blessed day, after all)
•When prostrating
• Following the prescribed prayers
• In the depths of the night
• Between the adhaan and the iqaamah
• When drinking Zamzam water.
I hope this is of benefit to you and I ask that you make dua for me & the LFJ Tribe community - that Allah keeps us firm on His Path and grants us all jannatul firdaus.
